is the brainchild of Brett Palm, who plays bass and writes all the songs. Brett talks about his role as a composer: "You could call me a late bloomer. I didn't start writing music until my mid-40s, eight or nine years ago. I spent the three decades before that playing in just about every type of band you can imagine. Firmly grounded in pop and Top Forty, I've played countless bar gigs, weddings, corporate parties, you name it. I've played in country bands when the money was right, moved into jazz whenever I could, and learned to be a seasoned, versatile musician able to cover the bass duties for any situation.

"I spent years in the Caribbean, where I developed a taste for calypso and reggae, and worked extensively with Costa Rican singer and guitarist Carlos Herrera, playing Latin/South American music. This is a drawn out way of saying that I built up a huge amount of experience before I tried writing anything. And once I started writing I couldn't stop. I found I had a lot to say, and I knew how I wanted it to sound. All of the influences from the past come through in the tunes now. You can hear it in the new CD. There is rock and swing and reggae and calypso and bossa in there. I enjoy putting together a well crafted song, and then leaving room for the musicians to stretch out. And that's why I call it jazz--- the band takes the main idea of each tune, and then runs with it. I am blessed to work with musicians who not only can tear it up when called upon, but honestly strive to make each song work for what it is. The guys in Planet B are excellent team players. This is what Planet B is about. Like I've said before, this is music that I would like to hear if I were going out to hear music."

"Composer and bassist Brett Palm has put together another great combination of musicians for 'Planet B'. They're all outstanding artists in their own right and when Brett gets them together for Planet B, it's like a rocket blasting off from Cape Canaveral...buckle up, hold on, and get ready for explorations in a new musical universe. It's also an added pleasure that Brett has a great sense of humor -- just check out some of his song titles. Brett's music with Planet B is a regular on my Sunday night jazz show on KJZY 93.7."

"I've known Brett Palm for many years and we typically see each other only a couple times a year. Although we come together for 'other reasons,' we always end up talking about music. I'm a HUGE music fan and have produced hundreds of concerts in the past 17 years; the shows are always lyric-oriented (folk, Americana, singer-songwriter). Jazz rarely was in 'my world.'

"Brett turned me on to Planet B, and I've been a fan ever since. Honestly I haven't ventured too far into the jazz world, but find myself choosing to listen and re-listen to his CDs. There is such a great groove going through each song, a different, interesting, engaging groove. Each listen I tend to focus on something different, which is easy to do since the recordings are so clean.

"I look forward to seeing Planet B LIVE and look forward to hosting Planet B!"
